Add to TBR: INTERIORS by Amber Lewis
Freshly available on bookshelves near you, the latest print volume from interior designer Amber Lewis explores her process behind designing spaces that resonate.
In an industry that can sometimes feel trend hungry (let’s be honest), or that classic, minimalist design isn’t quite discerning enough, Amber Lewis is a special breed of interior designer. Based in California, Amber’s approach to interiors lands in a happy middle ground of being accessible to those with simple and functional taste, and those who prefer elevated and tastefully eclectic spaces. There is a timelessness to what she does, and to how she works.
“I don’t love a trend. I really like for things to feel like it could be from 10 years ago, 15 years ago or from 10 years, 15 years from now.”
Note that her ease and classic style are also revered across the design world. Throughout her career, Amber has collaborated with a multitude of brands to design original collections with Anthropologie, Loloi, Four Hands, Visual Comfort, and Etsy. Scrolling through her portfolio, her projects exude relaxed and authentic California style.
Amber’s projects blend earthy with the ethereal, layered with levity. Image via her website.
This week, Amber digs in to her process to bring an even more approachable element to her work. INTERIORS is the third book to her name, and it is a deep dive into her Six P's, the stages every project moves through, no matter its size:
Ponder: the spark, the daydream, the "okay, we're doing this" moment
Play: swatches, wild ideas, mood boards - where things get messy in the best way
Procure: the shopping Olympics: vintage hunts, custom pieces, flea market finds
Patience + Panic: waiting out lead times, then panicking when the wrong thing arrives
Pull It Together: install week, the mad dash where it all finally clicks
Pride: the payoff - the "we did it" moment
One other key facet of the book is the focus on the messy middle, the stage where emotions tend to lean towards frustration due to factors our of your control (think delays, decision fatigue, and paint color expectations falling flat), and how to find the beauty in this stage as your home’s story unfolds.
The book is available for pre-order now at Amazon, Target, and Barnes & Noble, and be sure to check your local bookshops, too.
